In volleyball last night…
- Ewen-Trout Creek fell to Ironwood 3-1 (12-25, 17-25, 25-23, 12-25).
Houghton swept the Calumet Invitational cross country meet yesterday…
- The Gremlins won the boys crown, with Jeffers second, followed by Negaunee, Westwood, L’Anse and the Copper Island Academy. Calvin Carlson from Westwood medaled. West Iron County’s Eduel Spencer placed second, and Houghton’s Brandon Van Karsen finished third.
- The Gremlins took the girls title, with L’Anse second, followed by Negaunee and Calumet. Holly Cooke of the Gremlins medaled, followed by Julia Plaxco from Negaunee, and Alena Pietila from Hancock.

On tonight’s volleyball schedule…
- Houghton travels to Forest Park for a triangular with North Dickinson. Coverage will be provided by the Voice of Iron County Sports, 99.1 WIKB.
- Hancock plays at Calumet. Coverage will begin around 6:10 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
- Chassell and Dollar Bay-Tamarack City play a triangular at Jeffers.
- Ontonagon entertains Bessemer.
The West Iron County girls tennis team entertains Ironwood.
MLB
The Tigers were held hitless through six innings, but exploded for four runs in the seventh, and went on to earn a 6-5 victory over the Blue Jays last night. The big blow was a two-run double by rookie Max Clark. The Jays, who scored two in the first inning off starter Troy Melton, reclaimed the lead with three off reliever Kyle Finnegan in the bottom of the seventh. Brett Callahan singled home Kevin McGonigle to tie the game in the eighth, and Zach McInstry scored the winning run on a throwing error in the top of the ninth. Tyler Kinley earned the win with a scoreless eighth, and Kenley Jansen got the save.
The Tigers have won five straight, and visit the Blue Jays again tonight. Drew Anderson will start against Braydon Fisher. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers had yesterday off, and visit the Pirates tonight. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Lake Bachar.
