College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team is at the Mountain Lion Classic at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs. They’ll face the host team tonight at 7:00, Saint Edward’s tomorrow at 11:00, and South Dakota Mines tomorrow at 6:30.
The Northern Michigan volleyball squad is at the Cal State East Bay tournament in Hayward, California. They will face the host team today at 5:00, Colorado School of Mines tomorrow at 1:00, and Westmont College tomorrow at 8:30.
College Soccer
The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team faces Northwood this afternoon at 2:30 at Cedarville University in Ohio.
The Northern Michigan women’s team plays Cedarville tonight at 7:00.
The Northern Michigan men’s team entertains Lake Erie College this afternoon at 3:00.
MLB
The Tigers scored five runs in the top of the 12th inning, and broke out of their funk with an 11-6 victory over the Twins last night. Spencer Torkelson’s two-run homer gave Detroit the lead, and Javier Báez’ bases-loaded bloop double off the glove of first baseman Royce Lewis sealed the win. That came after each team had scored once in the 11th. John Peck got his first two major league hits – an RBI double in the second inning, and an RBI single in the sixth. Max Clark had three hits and scored three runs.
The Tigers head to Cleveland for two games against the Guardians today. The afternoon contest makes up a rainout from June 14th. Keider Montero will start. Coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift. Andrew Sears will start the regularly-scheduled game this evening. Coverage will begin at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit pitcher Tanner Rainey has cleared waivers after being designated for assignment, and has been outrighted to Toledo.
Reliever Burch Smith won’t be back with the Tigers this season. He’s been rehabbing a shoulder injury since late May, and recently underwent surgery to correct the problem.
The Brewers overcame a rare off-night for Jacob Misiorowski, and clobbered the Cubs 9-5. Misiorowski gave up five runs over the first two innings, then settled in and pitched through the fourth. Five Milwaukee relievers held Chicago to just one hit over the duration. Jackson Chourio had four hits, including a double and a home run.
The Brewers visit the Cubs again tonight. Logan Henderson will pitch against Kevin Gausman.
Milwaukee has designated pitcher Joel Kuhnel for assignment.
