In high school volleyball last night…
- Hancock swept Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-11).
- Baraga cruised past Lake Linden-Hubbell 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-17).
- Jeffers got past Gwinn 3-1 (25-23, 18-25, 25-10, 25-18).
- Ewen-Trout Creek swept Wakefield-Marenisco 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-20).
The Houghton boys soccer game against Marquette was canceled.
MLB
The Tigers’ woes continued with a 15-2 loss to the Twins last night. Minnesota plated 10 runs in the sixth inning to put the game away. Troy Melton gave up four runs over the first five innings, and was charged with three more in the sixth. Kyle Finnegan and Beau Brieske were held responsible for the rest.
The Tigers have dropped 14 of their last 17, and visit the Twins again tonight. Drew Anderson will start against Dean Kremer. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Tigers brought shortstop prospect John Peck up from Toledo yesterday. He made his major league debut late in the game, and did not get an at-bat. Corey Julks was sent back down to make room on the roster. Reliever Yilber Díaz was brought back up from the Mud Hens. Tanner Rainey was designated for assignment.
Riley Green rejoined the Tigers last night, after missing a couple of weeks with a strained hamstring. He and Brieske were added as team rosters were allowed to expand from 26 to 28 players.
The Brewers bounced back from Monday night’s ugly loss and defeated the Cubs 9-4. Christian Yelich and Joey Ortiz homered.
The Brewers visit the Cubs again tonight. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against David Peterson.
Milwaukee added pitcher JoJo Romero and catcher Bo Naylor to their roster yesterday.
NFL
The Lions have placed backup running back Isiah Pacheco on injured reserve. He’s dealing with knee and back problems, and will miss at least the first four games of the season.
NBA
The Bucks have lost another Antetokounmpo. With Giannis now playing for the Heat, older brother Thanasis has signed with a team in his native Greece.
