Education’s evolving landscape makes each new school year a new adventure. Over the past few years, schools have noticed students having less success in the classroom and less confidence in their abilities. But education leaders have started finding ways for communities to uplift students.
Family Success Coordinator Chris Schuldt recently helped train family champions in schools to boost engagement.
“Really what we’re trying to work this year is just getting parents to have more of a voice, parents and caregivers,” Schuldt said. “And so one of the ways that we’re doing that is just recently we trained 14 individuals across CCISD schools to be what we call family engagement champions. And so the point of them is to really they know their school well, they know what works and what doesn’t work, they know what kind of events they’re having. We just want to infuse family engagement into those events. So we’re not asking them to scrap anything. We’re just asking them to kind of retool, re-inject family engagement into it.”
Between family champions, Everyday Counts and Impact at Home programs, schools hope to see students engaged in more success. Education leaders know kids can succeed when parents are engaged with what their students learn in class.
