Michigan Technological University cut the ribbon Friday on a new trail within the Tech Trails Network on property donated by Don McLean and his brother Norman.
The 21.6 acres were donated to the university and adjacent Portage Lake Golf Course. The new trail traverses 1.5 kilometers and connects the loop trail to the rest of the network.
Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Relations Bill Roberts praised the donation’s impact on the community.
“Through the generosity of Mr. Don McLean, our students and community will benefit from this property which adds a unique section to our trails bordering the beautiful Pilgrim River,” Roberts said. “We look forward to preserving this for future generations to enjoy.”
