The Michigan Department of Transportation announced details for a culvert replacement project that will impact traffic across Keweenaw County. US-41, the main road connecting communities throughout the area with spur roads branching from the central highway, will be affected.
The $330,000 investment will replace culverts on US-41 south of Washington Mine Road. Work includes replacing culverts with concrete elliptical culverts, backfill, guardrail installation or repair, slope restoration, and repaving.
The project begins August 10 and ends August 21. A detour for through traffic will be in effect from August 10-14. During this time, traffic from M-26/US-41 in Phoenix to Copper Harbor will be rerouted via M-26. US-41 will remain open only to local traffic and residents traveling locally, with traffic expected to pass in both directions.
Local traffic can continue to use the highway to reach their homes throughout the project.
