Michael Massey’s two-run homer off Drew Sommers in the eighth inning lifted the Royals to a 5-4 victory over the Tigers yesterday. Framber Valdez surrendered a two-run homer in the first inning, then allowed just one more unearned run over five frames. Detroit claimed the lead with a four-run fifth, capped by Dillon Dingler’s two-run single.
The Tigers dropped two of three to the Royals, and host the Orioles tonight. Keider Montero will start against Kyle Bradish. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Kerry Carpenter left yesterday’s game with a sore foot. He’s been dealing with a bruise on his heel for a few days, and will be evaluated today. Javier Báez started in center field for the Mud Hens and had two hits yesterday. He could return from the injured list this week, after recovering from a sprained ankle. After a successful rehab start at Erie Saturday, Jackson Jobe’s next rehab start will be at Toledo. He’s recovering from Tommy John ligament replacement surgery.
The Brewers clobbered the Rockies 11-2 yesterday. Jacob Misiorowski struck out 12 of the first 13 batters he faced. Cole Carrigg’s solo home run in the fifth was the only hit he gave up. Andrew Vaughn homered, Jackson Chourio and Luis Lara each had a pair of doubles, and Joey Ortiz hit a triple.
The Brewers visit the Giants tonight. Brandon Sproat will pitch against Tyler Mahle.
Milwaukee has seen enough of Lance McCullers Jr. Just 11 days after trading for the veteran pitcher, the team designated him for assignment yesterday. Garrett Stallings was called up from Nashville to fill the roster spot. McCullers and pitcher Colton Gordon came in from the Astros in a trade for outfield prospect Jadyn Fielder. Gordon remains with the Sounds.
