Fast Pitch Softball
In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League play last evening…
- Gold Standard defeated Northern Wishes 6-1. Payton Goldsworthy was the winning pitcher, and Larissa Peterson took the loss with Rosalie Kangas and Janet Mattila coming in as relief. For Gold Standard, Abby Derkos had a home run and two doubles, Ashlyn Steves had a triple, and Taylor Goldsworthy had a double. For Northern Wishes, Meg Ruohonen, Naomi Frahm and Kim Aho each had a single.
- Moyle/Finnish Coat and Figaro’s Pizza did not play their game.
MLB
The All-Star Game will be played tonight in Philadelphia.
The Tigers will be represented by Riley Greene, who will start in left field. He moved into the lineup because elected starters Aaron Judge and Byron Buxton will not play. Catcher Dillon Dingler and infielder Kevin McGonigle are reserves. Justin Verlander, who has announced that this will be his final season, is also at the game as a Commissioner’s Legend Pick, but will not play.
The Brewers have no starters in the game, but catcher William Contreras and starter Jacob Misiorowski are reserves. Misiorowski will not play, after missing his latest start with arm fatigue. He’s also not expected to start in Milwaukee’s upcoming weekend series against the Marlins.
At the Home Run Derby last night, Jordan Walker of the Cardinals edged out hometown favorite Kyle Schwarber 12-11 in the final round.
Horseshoes
In Copper Country Horseshoe League play last evening…
- Dreamland shut down Ahmeek Fire Department 8-1.
- Eva’s Hideaway shaded Luigi’s Bar 5-4.
- Sayen’s Auto downed Calumet Electronics 7-2.
- Harter’s Party Store edged Bucko’s Party Store 5-4.
- Erkkila Forest Products blanked Loading Zone 9-0.
- Laurium One shut out Mohawk Superette 9-0.
Canal Run
Online registration continues through Thursday for Saturday’s Canal Run. Events include a half-marathon, 10k, 5k and 2k runs and walks, a kids dash, and adaptive races. Sign up and get details at Canal.run. An on-site registration session will take place on Friday afternoon from 3:00 to 8:00 at Quincy Green. There will be no race day registration on Saturday.
