The village of South Range is cracking down on blight.
In an announcement shared on social media, village officials said they’ve been receiving an increasing number of complaints about blighted properties and junk.
The village does have a junk ordinance, which was adopted in 1996. It covers inoperable cars and car parts, scrap metal, lumber and building materials, appliances, tires, and a long list of other types of trash. Such items must be concealed from public view behind a fence or in a building, or disposed of.
Village officials say letters will soon be issued to violators, who will have an opportunity to clean up their property with no penalty. Failure to comply could result in a visit from sheriff’s deputies, with the potential for fines and jail time.
