In baseball yesterday…
- Ben Keranen’s second-inning home run powered Hancock to a 12-2 victory over Houghton in the annual Copper Bat baseball game yesterday. Keranen added a double in the sixth, and was credited with five RBI. He also earned the win on the mound, pitching into the fifth, and giving up two runs on five hits.
At the U.P. Division I Track Regional at Kingsford yesterday…
- The Houghton boys placed a close second to the host Flivvers. Calumet placed fifth. Sam Roth of the Gremlins won the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Eli Garnell won the 800-meter. Michael Solena claimed the discus throw and shot put. Houghton took three of the four relays.
- The Houghton girls finished a distant second to Negaunee. Calumet placed fourth. Tessa Rautiola took the 3200-meter run, and the 4×800 relay team won.

At the U.P. Division III Regional at Ishpeming yesterday, team results were not compiled.
- On the boys side, Joey Mainville from Forest Park took the 800-meter run. Dietrich Rasner claimed the 110-meter hurdles, and the 4×800 relay team won.
- On the girls side, Audrey Williams won the 1600-meter run. Ava Fischer took the 100 and 300-meter hurdles. Elsie Williams won the long jump, and the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams were victorious.

At the Young’s Golf Tournament at Iron River yesterday…
- Jeffers claimed the boys team title, with Calumet a close second. Tage Rajala of the Jets medaled with a 79. Robert Loukus from Calumet, Connor Helminen from Hancock and Brendan Jukuri of Houghton tied for second, one stroke back. See full results here.
- Negaunee easily won the girls team title. Ady Crookham of the Miners medaled with a 93. Cali Hodges from Calumet tied for second. See full results here.

In the NBA tournament yesterday…
- The Cavaliers outscored the Pistons 117-113 in overtime. Cade Cunningham scored 39 points, and Daniss Jenkins added 19, but Detroit bench players contributed just 27 points. The Pistons trail that Eastern Conference semifinal series 3-2, and face a must-win game in Cleveland tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NHL
In the NHL playoffs last night…
- The Avalanche dispatched the Wild 4-3 in overtime. Colorado wins that Western Conference second-round series 4-1.
Tonight…
- The Sabres host the Canadiens. That Eastern Conference series is tied 2-2.
- The Ducks welcome the Golden Knights. Vegas leads that Western Conference set 3-2.
MLB
Rookie Carson Benge’s RBI single off Drew Anderson in the bottom of the 10th lifted the Mets to a 3-2 victory over the Tigers last night. Both of Detroit’s runs scored in the top of the first inning on a single by Riley Greene. Framber Valdez pitched into the seventh, and was charged with two runs on five hits.
The Tigers have lost seven of their last eight, and visit the Mets again this afternoon. Keider Montero will start against Nolan McLean. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Starter Troy Melton could be on his way back to Detroit. Melton has been rehabbing from an inflamed left elbow. After two successful rehab starts at Single-A Lakeland, he’ll make his next rehab start at Toledo.
The Brewers’ five-game winning streak ended with a 3-1 loss to the Padres last night. Gavin Sheets’ three-run homer off Abner Uribe in the top of the ninth won it for San Diego. The late blow spoiled another masterful start by Jacob Misiorowski, who turned in seven shutout innings, giving up just four hits, and striking out 10. He headed back to the mound for the eighth inning, but experienced a leg cramp, and left the game.
The Brewers host the Padres again today. Kyle Harrison will pitch against Griffin Canning.
After returning from the injured list for Tuesday’s game, Christian Yelich missed last night’s contest with back tightness. He’s considered day-to-day.
