A June celebration in the Keweenaw Peninsula could not start summer without fireworks.
After several years, many council meetings, evaluations and conversations with the United States Coast Guard, Bridgefest fireworks will move to a barge on the Portage Canal. Incredible Bank is grateful for the work by community leaders in Houghton and Hancock to coordinate moving the launch location from the shore in Hancock to the water.
Kyle Kumpula says the fireworks bring the community together to sit and enjoy a show.
“I mean, first of all, remember Bridge Fest as a kid growing up and the parade and the fireworks were always, of course, the focal point of that. So to be involved with the fireworks is super exciting for us,” said Kyle Kumpula, marketing manager for Incredible Bank in Houghton. “We like to get out into the community, partner with community members anytime we can. Who doesn’t want to be involved in Bridge Fest? For any businesses out there who are looking for some to get involved in, I mean, Bridge Fest is the kickoff to the summer. This is where you should be.”
2026 is the second year Incredible Bank will sponsor the fireworks at Bridgefest. Kumpula says the Copper Country will also see the bank’s staff out at the parade and volunteering throughout the weekend.
Those interested in sponsoring Bridgefest or wanting to get a group together to volunteer during the weekend should contact the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce with questions.
