MLB
The Tigers’ collapse continued with a 10-2 loss to the Mets last night. Detroit took a brief lead in the top of the second inning, on a solo Dillon Dingler home run, and a sacrifice fly by Spencer Torkelson. Jack Flaherty couldn’t hold it, surrendering three runs and throwing nearly 100 pitches before leaving in the fourth. The Detroit bullpen was awful – Burch Smith took over in the sixth, got just one out, and was charged with three runs. Enmanuel De Jesus was charged with two runs, Ricky Vanasco was charged with two runs, and catcher Jake Rogers took the mound to get the final out.
The Tigers visit the Mets again tonight. Framber Valdez will return from his suspension to start against Christian Scott. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on KBear 102.3.
Casey Mize is scheduled to throw a bullpen session today, as he rehabs from an adductor strain. If it goes well, he could return to the rotation next week.
The Tigers have brought veteran coach Gary Jones back into the organization as the new manager of the Mud Hens. Jones was supposed to have taken the reins at Toledo in 2022, but was promoted to A.J. Hinch’s Detroit staff following the death of first base coach Kimera Bartee. He remained with the Tigers through last season. He replaces Gabe Alvarez, who was fired after sending an inappropriate text to a co-worker.
The Brewers held off the Padres 6-4 last night. After Joey Ortiz homered in the third inning, Milwaukee scored five runs in the fourth, powered by a two-run single by Sal Frelick and a two-run double by Brice Turang.
The Brewers have won five straight, and host the Padres again tonight. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Michael King.
Milwaukee brought Christian Yelich off the injured list before last night’s game. Tyler Black was sent back to Nashville.

The Lions have completed the signing process for all of the players they took in the recent NFL Draft. First-round pick Blake Miller was the last to ink a deal.
