Laurium Village Police are requesting public assistance in identifying three individuals suspected of multiple vehicle break-ins.
In the early morning hours on April 1, several residents around Laurium woke up to property missing or out of place from their vehicles. Police Chief Kurt Erkkila said the department received at least nine reports from residents for stolen property.
“I think we got like nine maybe that stuff missing and then several others that said that someone was just in their car. Couple of them found like property near the vehicle even,” Erkkila said. “I think there were some sunglasses missing that were recovered, a phone charger and mostly and then just like small amounts of cash that you keep in your cup holders.”
Erkkila said despite living in rural communities, residents in the Copper Country can become victims of petty crime. He suggests residents make sure their vehicles and homes are secure before going to sleep.
Residents of Laurium who own home security cameras have been asked to review their footage and look for any suspicious activity recently. Those with information should contact the Laurium Village Police Department at (906)-337-4000.
