Treehouse Family Resources will host a special intergenerational dance this weekend, bringing together local families and residents of The Bluffs Senior Living Community for the Caps and Crowns Dance.
Executive Director Liz Ludington said the bonds built during similar events throughout the year expose children and families to new experiences and help families build connections with their community.
“It was a really big success. But one of our staff members had the idea this year to have it at The Bluffs and make it an intergenerational event,” Ludington said. “And The Bluffs has been fantastic about helping us plan this and they were very excited about it as well. Both generations really benefit from the interaction.”
Organizers hope some Bluffs residents will attend, including the Mardi Gras King and Queen, who may make an appearance as the royals at the ball.
“It’s just really good for children and older adults to interact and have fun together,” Ludington said.
The Caps and Crowns Dance serves as a pay-as-you’re-able fundraiser supporting Treehouse Family Resources programs, including the Baby Closet. Ludington said transitioning large fundraisers to invite the families the center supports helps childcare specialists connect with families by providing a more engaging way to show support for the organization and community.
The dance will begin at 1:30 p.m. this weekend at The Bluffs Senior Community. The event is supported by several Copper Country sponsors, including the Copper Shores Community Health Foundation, Keweenaw Community Foundation, CCISD, The Bluffs, Keweenaw Automotive, Frank A Douglas Real Estate, Edward Jones, RC Mechanical, Copper Country Family Dentistry, UPward Orthodontics, Victoria’s Kitchen, Walmart, Monte Consulting, Copper Country Ford, State Farm – Sara Lahti, and Industrial Graphics.
