High School
Girls basketball tournament regional semifinals will be played tonight…
- Division Four, Region 25 at Houghton: Ewen-Trout Creek faces L’Anse at 7:00. L’Anse is arranging a fan bus for students in 6th through 12th grades. Students who are interested should sign up by noon today in the school office.
- Division Three, Region 17 at Negaunee: Calumet plays Menominee at 7:00. Coverage will begin around 6:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
Dollar Bay-Tamarack City is also trying to arrange a fan bus to tomorrow’s game against Pickford at Gladstone High School. If you’re interested, call the school office, or click here.
Junior Hockey
The Lansing Spartans won the title at the 18U Tier III junior hockey state tournament at the Colosseum yesterday, defeating Jim’s Pizza 5-2 in the finale.

College Hockey
The top four seeds in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association tournament all won their quarterfinal series over the weekend. That means that fourth-seed Michigan Tech will play at top-seeded Minnesota State in a semifinal game on Saturday. Second-seed Saint Thomas will host third-seed Augustana.
College Basketball
The 15th-ranked Michigan Tech men’s basketball team fell to 25th-ranked Grand Valley State 82-70 in the semifinals of the Saturday. Marcus Tomashek led the Huskies with 13 points.
The 17th-ranked Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team fell to Grand Valley 67-57 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball tournament title game yesterday.
Pairings for the opening round of the NCAA Division Two tournament were released late last night. The Tech men’s team is seeded third in the East Division, and will face sixth-seed Lake Erie. The Northern men’s team is seeded fourth, and will open against fifth-seed Rockhurst. Opening-round games will be staged Saturday at top-seeded Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.
The Northern women’s team is seeded fifth, and will open against fourth-seed Wayne State Friday at top-seeded Grand Valley State in Allendale.
NHL
The Red Wings blanked the Devils 3-0 last night. After nine-and-a-half seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins, former Northern Michigan University standout Dominik Shine scored his first NHL goal. Goalie John Gibson left the game after a collision in the second period – his status is unknown.
The Wings visit the Panthers tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons lost their fourth straight game last night, falling to the Heat 121-110. Cade Cunningham scored 26.
The Pistons will visit the Nets tomorrow.
The Bucks dropped a 130-91 decision to the Magic last evening. Giannis Antetokounmpo was held out as he continues to recover from his thigh strain.
The Bucks welcome the Suns tomorrow night.
MLB
The Tigers were shut out 5-0 by half of the Blue Jays in Grapefruit League action yesterday.
The Tigers face the Rays this afternoon. Framber Valdez will start for Detroit.
The Brewers beat the Mariners 6-3 in Cactus League play yesterday. Ethan Murray and Jake Bauers homered. Kyle Harrison allowed two runs over two innings, but also struck out eight.
The Brewers will take on the Dodgers this afternoon. Aaron Ashby will start for Milwaukee.
