The Copper Country Snowsports Club tackles the challenge of keeping winter activities affordable in an effort to make alpine skiing accessible to copper country kids.
Keweenaw residents need outdoor winter activities for fun, and starting a hobby or sport at an early age can last a lifetime. The club works with kids at Mount Ripley to train for four races in the region, and athletes can compete at the national level as part of US-Skiing events the club hosts.
“We’re hoping to be able to do some new timing and working with Mount Ripley going forward in the future. And basically that is one program that we have, but we also really want to just make our program as affordable as we can for kids in the Keweenaw to be able to look at it. So all of the money that we receive goes directly towards that mission,” said Kris Anderson, public relations volunteer for Copper Country Snowsports Club.
Anderson said the club has been a wonderful experience for his son and others. In 2024, Giving Tuesday raised $3,800 to support youth winter sports in the copper country.
