Throughout Michigan Technological University’s history engineering has been a major part of the college’s identity.
I look at our accreditation data, and we’ve been accredited for nearly 100 years here really soon. So, I mean we’ve been around a really long time in terms of educating engineers for the area, the region, and the world. And we still continue to produce engineers that meet society’s needs. – Audra Morse, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Michigan Technological University
Between undergrad and graduate programs, students have 50 areas they can focus their studies on. From mechanical and electrical engineering to civil engineers working on public infrastructure, and the university’s newest program, aerospace engineering.
Looking historically at data, you can kind of look at trends of what’s going on in the world, and that seems to impact enrollment. And so world events, but like in Kim’s case, teachers. Teachers are really helpful in opening students’ eyes to the potential of career options for them with an engineering degree. – Audra Morse, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Michigan Technological University
Michigan Tech’s College of Engineering recently partnered with the Lenawee Intermediate School District, through educator Kim Benson, to create a dual enrollment program. So, students might have the opportunity to come into a university or college with three more credits toward a degree.
She has, and her schools, the teams there have been performing really well in Michigan’s Track Bridge competition put on by MDOT. And that became how we met. But she reached out and said, “What could we do to make it easier for students who have attended the LISD Tech Center and taken courses there to transfer to Michigan Tech? So, the idea was then developed to have her teach and be a teacher. and teach a couple of our three classes for her students so that way when they’re seniors and they graduate, they already have three courses under their belt. – Audra Morse, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Michigan Technological University
