Halloween takes over Shelden Avenue tomorrow. For two hours the community will rush down to downtown Houghton for the annual treat street. Small businesses will pass out candy to kids, and families will enjoy a safe trick or treating environment. Houghton police department lieutenant nick Roberts says first responders look forward to Treat Street each year. Some might even dress up and join in on the festive fun for a couple of hours.
It gives the kids another opportunity to show off their costumes before Halloween. It’s good publicity for the city and it’s good for the downtown businesses. It’s good for the public, because it shows that we all care about the community that we live in. – Lieutenant Nick Roberts, City of Houghton Police Department
The Houghton police department and fire department will block us-41 at franklin square, and redirector traffic to lake shore drive. Lieutenant Roberts says drivers will follow Lake Shore Drive and turn left onto Quincy Street to return to US-41. The police department requests drivers to remove their vehicle from Shelden Avenue by 3 pm so first responders can begin setting up Treat Street. Police will redirect traffic around 3:45 pm. Treat Street will occur from 4 –6 pm on Saturday.
