After ten years leading Main Street Calumet Leah Polzin will step down as executive director. And Jared Howard will step up to fill Polzin’s shoes.
Howard has already hit the ground running, meeting with various community leaders and organizations. He says he’s very excited to continue the events, and initiatives Main Street Calumet brings to the community. Howard continues to collaborate with Polzin, and community leader Bob Langseth, and will keep up their hard work to polish a jewel in the Keweenaw Peninsula.
To preserve and to stabilize and to kind of bring more businesses and opportunities in through looking at what these buildings used to hold for historic value. And what they can hold for the future of the growth of Calumet. And so a lot of the things that Leah has been working on that I’ve just been learning day after day is, how do we do that as people, individuals in the community to look at some of these buildings that we have that we know are beautiful and we see glimpses into the past and how do we make them last throughout this next iteration of what Calumet is. – Jared Howard, Executive Director, Main Street Calumet
Some may recognize Howard from his position at the pulpit leading Sunday services at Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet. He adds he wants to become a bridgebuilder in the community to connect residents, business, village leaders, and visitors.
Main Street Calumet was established with the mission of bringing community together and creating easier avenues for people to get involved in Calumet’s redevelopment. Those interested in getting involved with Main Street Calumet events, or initiatives can find more online. Howard also welcomes the community to the Main Street office in the Calumet Merchants and Miners Building.
