In high school football Saturday…
- Gogebic built a 30-0 halftime lead, and cruised to a 42-12 victory over Lake Linden-Hubbell. The Miners held the Lakes’ rushing attack to less than 50 yards. Lake Linden quarterback Brady Axford completed 13 of 27 passes for 137 yards, with 2 touchdowns and two interceptions.
At the Marquette Sentinel Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday…
- Chassell won the Silver Division, falling to Marquette 0-3 (19-25, 17-25, 22-25) and Pellston 0-3 (21-25, 16-25, 25-27), then defeating Superior Central 2-0 (25-16, 25-21) and Bark River-Harris 2-1 (18-25, 25-22, 15-12). For the day, Elli Kuntze had 23 kills, 27 digs, 5 blocks, and 13 aces. Sylvia Aho had 63 assists, 6 aces and 12 digs. Dusty Lippold had 15 kills, 20 digs, 3 blocks, and 8 aces. Oriana Olson had 22 kills, 23 digs, 6 aces and 2 blocks.

College Volleyball
The Northern Michigan University volleyball team downed Purdue Northwest 3-1 (26-24, 25-18, 21-25, 25-23) Saturday. McKenzie Gruner and Kaylie McIntosh each had 14 kills, and Madison York added 13.
Michigan Tech visits Purdue Northwest this afternoon.
College Soccer
The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team plays at Northern today at 3:00.
The Wildcats men’s team hosts Davenport today at noon.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team had the weekend off.
The NMU hockey team fell 3-1 at 16th-ranked Ohio State Saturday evening. Landon MacDonald scored the Wildcats’ only goal.
College Football
The MTU football team shaded Davenport 16-14 Saturday. Both of the game’s touchdowns were scored in the first quarter, with Tech’s coming on a 23-yard Nic Nora run. Avery Kucharski kicked three field goals for the Huskies.
Northern’s football squad played eighth-ranked Grand Valley State to a 7-7 first-half tie, before falling to the Lakers 35-7 Saturday. Noah Dobert’s one-yard touchdown plunge provided the Wildcats’ only score.
MLB
The Brewers advanced to the National League Championship Series with a 3-1 victory over the Cubs on Saturday. William Contreras, Andrew Vaughn and Brice Turang each hit solo homers. Trevor Magill opened for Milwaukee. Jacob Misiorowski took over in the second, gave p a run on three hits over four innings, and earned the win.
The Brewers will host the Dodgers in game one of the NLCS Monday night.
Seattle will open the American League Championship Series tonight against the Blue Jays in Toronto.
NHL
The Red Wings bounced back from their opening night debacle, and pulled out a 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs Saturday night. The game was tied 3-3 until Lucas Raymond found the net early in the third period. A pair of late empty-netters sealed the win.
The Wings play at Toronto tomorrow afternoon. Coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift. The game was moved up from the evening to the afternoon to avoid a conflict with the Blue Jays’ playoff game tomorrow night.
NBA
The Pistons play their next preseason game Tuesday at Cleveland. Listen for selected Pistons broadcasts again this season on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks visit the Bulls this evening.
NFL
The Packers host the Bengals in a 4:25 game today. The status of kicker Brandon McManus remains uncertain, as he deals with a quad injury. Green Bay has signed former Rams kicker Lucas Havrisik as a backup.
The Lions visit the Chiefs in the Sunday night contest on 99.3 The Lift.
