Basket raffles, 50/50 drawings, and bingo nights can bring the community together any night. But it feels a bit more special when taking a chance also supports a great cause. Yesterday several copper country non-profit organizations joined the Keweenaw community Foundation to learn how charitable gaming can raise funds and connect with the people who support their missions.
It’s been really helpful to learn about the different rules, know, whether it’s a small raffle, a large raffle, again, like pull tickets, bingos, there’s different licensing that you’re going to need. And so just to make sure that you are in line with all of it, it’s really helpful. And we want to do this to help other people do things correctly as they grow and as they fundraise for their nonprofit. – Madelina Dilisi, Director of Programs, Keweenaw Community Foundation
Jake Harris with the Michigan Bureau of State Lottery says in 2024 charitable gaming contributed more than 60 million dollars supporting non-profit organizations across the state. Those interested in learning more about ways charitable gaming can help support an organization and engage with the community can find more details online. The charitable gaming program with KCF on Tuesday was a part of the non-profit education and networking series. In November the foundation will ask Visit Keweenaw’s Jesse Wiederhold to share media training tips with non-profits and community organizations. Learn more about both below.
