In high school volleyball last night…
- Calumet slipped past Houghton 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-20). For the Gremlins, Kate Filpus had 5 kills and 4 blocks, Ellie Hainault 6 kills, and Alyssa Northey: 13 assists, 3 aces and 8 digs.
- Hancock smothered Gwinn 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-16).
- Lake Linden-Hubbell dispatched L’Anse 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-14). Ella Schneiderhan had 10 kills for the Lakes, and Ashlyn Steves had 18 digs and 4 aces.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City stopped Ironwood 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-21). Kiera Isaacson had 23 digs and 17 kills. Hannah Keranen added 7 digs, 2 kills and 4 aces. Sylvie Kentala had 32 assists.

MLB
The Tigers have their backs to the wall, after an 8-4 loss to the Mariners last night. The start of the game was delayed for three hours by rain. The Mariners took command early, with two runs off Jack Flaherty in the third inning, and two more as he departed in the fourth. Detroit got one back in the fifth, but their remaining three runs didn’t score until the bottom of the ninth.
That best-of-five American League Divisional Series continues today in Detroit, with Seattle leading 2-1. Casey Mize will start against Bryce Miller. Coverage will begin at 2:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Yankees staved off elimination with a 9-6 victory over the Blue Jays. That series continues in New York this evening, with Toronto leading 2-0.
The Brewers could clinch their National League Divisional Series against the Cubs this afternoon. Milwaukee holds a 2-0 series lead, and will send Quinn Priester to the mound against Jameson Taillon.
The Dodgers could advance with a win at home tonight against the Phillies. L-A has a 2-0 lead in that National League series.
NHL
The Red Wings open the regular season tomorrow night at home against the Canadiens. Listen for Wings games this season on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons continue their preseason campaign tomorrow at Milwaukee. Listen for selected Pistons broadcasts again this season on 99.3 The Lift.
NFL
The Packers could be lining up against veteran quarterback Joe Flacco Sunday for the second time in three weeks. Flacco led the Browns to an upset win over Green Bay in week three. Yesterday, Flacco was traded to the Bengals in exchange for a draft pick. Cincinnati hopes he can be ready to replace the struggling Jake Browning, who threw three interceptions against the Lions last week.
