Keweenaw County has started work on updating its master plan. The non-governing document serves as a guide for potential future development, projects, programs, or endeavors a community wishes to undertake. Throughout the state of Michigan, communities use master plans and related documents when seeking grant awards to support a desire that has real motivation.
The Keweenaw County Planning Commission will lead the conversation and listen to the county’s communities and residents about needs and desires through public engagement. Next week, the planning commission and consulting firm North of 45’s Patrick Coleman will host engagement sessions starting on the 21st in Eagle Harbor. The program schedule will continue through September 16th, with the final session occurring in Houghton Township. Throughout the upcoming weeks, the planning commission will travel to several communities to meet more easily with residents.
Another way the Keweenaw county planning commission will engage with the community will happen online through a survey. The survey will provide vital information for individuals unable to attend in-person sessions and allow the planning commission to track a variety of ideas and trends. Residents of Keweenaw County can stay up to date with the master plan process online.
