The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department has set the dates for free hearing and vision screening for children starting kindergarten this fall in Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties.
Screenings at the health department’s office in Bessemer will be held August 18th from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm and August 19th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm Central Time. Call the Gogebic County office at 906-482-7382 Option 4 to set up an appointment. The Gogebic County office is located at 210 N Moore Street.
Screenings at the health department’s Ontonagon office are scheduled for August 27th from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm Eastern Time. Call the Ontonagon office at 906-482- 7382 Option 2 to set up an appointment. The Ontonagon County office is located at 408 Copper Street.
Hearing and vision screenings are required before starting kindergarten in Michigan. The health department provides them at no cost. Appointments in the Keweenaw can be made anytime by calling the health department office in Hancock at 482-7382, extension 171.
