Smoke from Canadian wildfires is again causing problems in our area.
An Air Quality Advisory continues through today for the entire western Upper Peninsula.
PM 2.5 levels edged into the red level at monitoring stations in Copper Harbor, Houghton and Big Bay overnight. PM 2.5 particles are sub-microscopic. You can’t see them, but they can cause a host of health problems, including lung inflammation and impaired brain development in children.
When air quality reaches the red level, experts recommend that everyone reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors. Stay indoors and keep windows closed, when and if possible.
Projections are that air quality will hover at the orange level throughout the day, with limited outdoor exposure and activity recommended for children, elders, and those with heart or lung conditions.
