Gibson Cup
The Portage Lake Pioneers scored three third-period goals, and defeated the Calumet Wolverines 4-2 in the first game of the Gibson Cup series last night.
Game two of the best-of-three set will be played tonight at the Colosseum at 7:30. Coverage will begin around 7:15 on the Keweenaw’s Local Sports Leader, KBear 102.3. Game three, if necessary, will be staged tomorrow night at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.
NHL
The Red Wings entertain the Hurricanes tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons visit the Raptors this evening.
The Bucks downed the 76ers 126-113 last evening. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a massive night, with 35 points, 20 assists and 17 rebounds – the biggest triple-double in NBA history.
The Bucks visit the Heat tomorrow.
MLB
The Tigers had yesterday off, and host the White Sox in their home opener this afternoon. Jack Flaherty will start against Jonathan Cannon. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers shaded the Reds 1-0 last night. Sal Frelick singled home Jackson Chourio in the fourth to provide the game’s only run. Nestor Cortes allowed just one over six innings, and struck out six. Cincinnati became the first MLB team in 65 years to lose three consecutive 1-0 games.
The Brewers continue that home set against the Reds tonight. Tyler Alexander will pitch against Nick Martinez.
