A pickup truck burst into fire at Houghton High School last night during the Houghton vs. Hancock volleyball game.
At about 8:00 p.m. on Oct. 22, the Houghton Fire Department was notified of a vehicle on fire in the parking lot of the high school, to which they quickly responded. The fire was contained to the engine bay of the truck, and although the flames were quickly doused, the car was effectively totaled.
Houghton Fire Chief Eric James commented that the cause of the fire could not be determined, but came after some repairs were performed on the engine.
