With Halloween quickly approaching, the Haunted History Trail of Michigan has launched with eight locations across the state, inviting travelers to discover historic places through their ghost stories, local legends and unexplained experiences in partnership with a number of organizations including Visit Keweenaw.
The Haunted History Trail is a self-guided travel resource, rather than a single tour or fixed route. Travelers can browse through any participating locations, learn the history behind their reported hauntings and choose the stops that interest them. At each location, there can be different experiences, such as guided tours, paranormal investigations, or simply a visit during public hours.
The inaugural collection in Michigan includes historic homes, the Calumet Theatre, and the former Calumet Air Force Station. Each location’s listing shares its story and information to help visitors plan a visit. The companion website also features a haunted events calendar with upcoming tours, investigations and other experiences.
The Michigan Trail marks the first expansion of the Haunted History Trail program outside of New York State since its conception in 2013. The New York version of the Trail now features more than 80 locations and brings together 30 destination marketing organizations. The organizers hope to bring the fun it generates to the people of the Wolverine State. Find more information here.
