- The Copper Island Academy defeated Superior Central 44-26.
In volleyball Saturday…
- Houghton at the Wrightstown Tournament – no report.
- At the D3-D4 Showdown in Livonia, Calumet defeated Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port 2-0 (25-18, 25-14) and Lutheran Westland 2-0 (25-13, 25-18), tied Plymouth Christian (25-18, 22-25), and fell to Plymouth Christian 2-0 (28-26, 25-16).
- Forest Park swept its matches at the Escanaba Tourney, defeating Gwinn (25-22, 25-18), Gladstone (25-8, 25-8), Manistique (25-8, 25-15), Westwood (25-12, 25-12), Norway (25-18, 25-20), and Gwinn a second time (25-15, 25-16).
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team opened its season by stunning 14th-ranked Minnesota 3-2 Saturday. Matthew Van Blaricom had two goals, including the game-winner in the third period, and added an assist. Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 29 saves.
Those teams will face off again this afternoon at 3:07, to make up Friday’s contest, which was postponed because of unsafe ice conditions. Friday tickets will be honored. Ticket holders who cannot attend this afternoon’s contest may request refunds through the MTU ticket office.
The NMU hockey squad settled for split in its season-opening series against Miami of Ohio with a 4-1 loss to the Redhawks Saturday night.
College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team swept Purdue Northwest 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-21) Saturday. Rachel Zurek led the Huskies with 12 kills. Madelynn Kreider had 30 assists, and Keely Nellis added 18 digs.
The NMU volleyball squad swept Lake Superior State 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-10).
College Football
The 20th-ranked Michigan Tech football team routed previously unbeaten Roosevelt University 57-28 Saturday. Alex Bueno completed 17-for-24 passing attempts for 241 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Jake Rueff rushed for 103 yards and one touchdown, and Elliott Larner ran for 55 yards and three scores.
The Northern football team dropped a 42-0 decision to top-ranked Ferris State Saturday.
College Soccer
The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team hosts Northern Michigan today at noon.
The NMU men’s team plays at Parkside today at noon.

- The Dodgers outscored the Braves 5-3. That set continues in L-A tonight.
- The Brewers got the Padres 3-2. After San Diego scratched out a couple of runs off Jacob Misiorowski in the second inning, Jackson Chourio’s two-run homer in the bottom of the third tied the contest. William Contreras’ solo shot in the seventh was the game-winner. That series continues in Milwaukee this afternoon.
In the American League…
- The White Sox blanked the Guardians 3-0. That series continues tomorrow in Cleveland.
- The Rays stifled the Yankees 1-0. That set resumes tomorrow night in St. Petersburg.

The Packers visit the Buccaneers for a 1:00 game today.
The Lions visit the Panthers for the Sunday night contest on 99.3 The Lift.
