Prosecutor Dan Helmer said no plea deal has been offered to Sze Wenn Tiang, 45, of Houghton in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash that killed two riders in August.
Tiang faces two counts of vehicle moving violation causing death and one count of driving without a valid license. She was arraigned on August 18 and posted a $1,000 bond the same day.
A pre-trial hearing scheduled for Monday was suspended to allow attorneys and Judge Daavettila to meet in chambers. Tiang’s next court appearance in 97th District Court is set for October 23.
Tiang has been given time to consult with her attorney, Sarah E. Henderson of Casselman and Henderson PC, regarding her legal options.
On August 5, Tiang was traveling south on US-41 in Calumet Township when she attempted to avoid a truck stopped on the highway that was attempting to turn left onto Golf Course Road. Her vehicle crossed into the northbound lane, striking two motorcyclists traveling north. A 65-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were killed in the crash. Tiang and her children were evaluated at the scene and released.
