The Baraga County Chamber of Commerce leads the U.S. Small Business Administration on a tour of local manufacturing.
Last week, SBA representatives joined the Chamber and CCISD students to visit local manufacturers. The tour visited Massie Manufacturing and Peninsula Powder Coating LLC.
Students from Baraga and L’Anse schools, the CTE program and those dual enrolled at Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College received a firsthand look at the manufacturing process and operations while meeting the workforce behind Massie Manufacturing.
Company owner Karl Neimala provided an overview of the company’s operations, including metal fabrication and CNC machining. Massie Manufacturing transforms raw material into precision components used by customers across the United States.
Following the visit at Massie Manufacturing, the Small Business Administration and Baraga County Chamber of Commerce toured Peninsula Powder Coating. Bill Raymond showcased the company’s operations and largest finishing ovens in the Midwest.
Baraga County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Diane Koskainen says Massie and Peninsula Powder are two of 15 manufacturers in the area. “Just because we’re up here doesn’t mean that we’re not a competitive manufacturing sector,” Koskainen said.
