General Motors continues to support STEM education by donating another $1.5 million to the MiSTEM Network and MTEC SmartZone.
The recent donation brings GM’s total support for science, technology, engineering and mathematics education to $2.5 million.
MTEC SmartZone will administer the funds to create elementary school programming focused on place-problem-project based learning in and outside of schools. The program’s success has exceeded expectations, with more than 31,000 students, educators and partners joining the MiSTEM Network.
Michigan LEO Director Susan Corbin says the partnership with GM exemplifies how public-private collaboration can help Michigan thrive now and into the future. “The generous donation will help students have access to diverse STEM career paths and in-demand careers as they graduate, and employers in the state will have the talent pipeline they need,” Corbin said.
David Masseron, VP of infrastructure and corporate citizenship at General Motors, said the strategic investment builds on public-private collaborations. “Investing in students is investing in the strength of our communities,” Masseron said.
