The Keweenaw Community Foundation and Hancock Area District Library announced Tuesday that a special project fund has reached its $10,000 goal to support a library millage on the November ballot.
The funds will finance informational materials sent to residents in Hancock, Franklin, and Quincy townships, as well as the city of Hancock. The money also covers attorney services provided by Anne Suernyck.
In August, the Hancock Area District Library board approved millage language and received approval from the Michigan State Librarian.
If voters approve the millage, the district library will collect funds from residents to support library services at Hancock Public Schools beyond school hours and serve the wider community. Should voters reject the millage, remaining special project funds will support the library’s continued services through the local school district budget.
The endowment fund could continue supporting library services if the community maintains its support.
