Two individuals were rescued with only minor injuries after falling over a waterfall in the Ottawa National Forest.
On Monday, the Gogebic County Sheriff was dispatched for a search and rescue incident at the Black River Trail. The sheriff received a report at 1:38 p.m. of two individuals who had gone over the falls.
Officials state one person attempted to cross the Black River above Rainbow Falls, they slipped in the river. A second person who attempted to rescue the individual was also pulled into the river by the current. Both individuals fell over Rainbow Falls.
Rescuers were told by two witnesses they heard yelling in the area of the falls. Both persons were hoisted from the bottom of Rainbow Falls by Gogebic County Search and Rescue volunteers. Both suffered only minor injuries in the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office was supported in the search and rescue by the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post, Gogebic County Search and Rescue, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, Ironwood Township Fire Department and Beacon Ambulance.
Rainbow Falls in the Ottawa National Forest stands 40 feet tall.
