MLB
The Tigers fell to the Royals 11-7 yesterday. Kevin McGonigle’s first-inning RBI double gave Detroit a brief early lead. That disappeared when Kansas City scored five runs in the second off opener Jacob Waguespack and his successor, Ty Madden. Detroit tied the contest with four runs in the top of the fifth, powered by a two-run McGonigle homer. K.C. pounced right back with five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, all off Andrew Sears, who took the loss in his major league debut.
The Tigers have lost eight of their last nine, and welcome the Rays tonight. Framber Valdez will start against Drew Rasmussen. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
To make room for Sears on the roster, pitcher Enmanuel De Jesus was sent down to Toledo, and outfielder James Outman was designated for assignment.
The Brewers dropped a 4-2 decision to the Braves in the annual Little League Classic game in Williamsport, Pennsylvania last evening. Shane Drohan gave up two runs on eight hits over five innings and took the loss.
The Brewers have tonight off, and begin a series in New York against the Mets tomorrow. Kyle Harrison will pitch against Zac Thornton.
Garrett Mitchell left last night’s game after he was hit on the forearm by a pitch. He suffered a bad bruise, but an X-ray revealed no structural damage.
