Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College is inviting the community to meet its new president, Melissa Kisewetter, at an open house and presidential meet-and-greet Tuesday on the L’Anse campus.
The event will showcase the institution’s recent improvements and introduce Kisewetter to the broader community. Guests can tour the campus, including recently renovated science labs, and meet Hal, an AI mannequin used in the nursing program.
Refreshments will be available at the Three Sisters Cafe, and attendees can enter to win door prizes.
Kisewetter brings extensive experience in higher education and tribal affairs to the role. She previously served the state of Michigan as a tribal liaison with the Michigan Office of Lifelong Education, Advancement and Potential, where she worked as an administrator for the Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver program.
Her professional background also includes positions at Illinois State University, Michigan State University and Albion College, where she focused on residential life, student affairs and programming.
“The event will introduce new president Melissa Kisewetter to the community college and wider community,” organizers said.
The meet-and-greet begins at 6 p.m. at the main college campus located at 770 N Main Street in L’Anse.
Kisewetter’s appointment represents a significant moment for the institution as it continues to serve Native American students and strengthen its academic programs.
