The Tigers fell to the Angels 3-2 yesterday. Detroit took an early lead with a lead-off home run from Kevin McGonigle. The Halos got one back off Casey Mize in the second. Mize left in the fourth inning after taking a comebacker off his wrist. Manager A.J. Hinch said after the game that Mize was also again experiencing tightness in the groin muscle that’s been giving him problems for weeks. He’ll be examined today. Drew Anderson replaced him, was charged with two runs, and took the loss. Riley Greene’s lead-off homer in the top of the ninth narrowed the gap.
The Tigers visit the Cubs tonight. Jack Flaherty will start against Jameson Taillon. Coverage will begin at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit has transferred reliever Will Vest to the 60-day injured list. He’s recovering from a stress fracture in his elbow. Jackson Jobe gave up a run on three hits over three innings in a rehab start for the Double-A Erie Seawolves yesterday. He’s coming back from Tommy John ligament replacement surgery.
William Contreras’ three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth gave the Brewers a 3-1 walk-off victory over the Marlins yesterday. Milwaukee had been held to just two hits over the first eight innings. Robert Gasser turned in a good start, allowing a run on three hits through five innings.
The Crew hosts the Mets this evening. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Freddy Peralta.
Pitcher D.L. Hall tossed a quick scoreless inning in his first rehab start for Milwaukee’s High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers yesterday. He’s recovering from a left pectoral strain.
