The Tigers used a late surge to push past the Reds 8-3 yesterday. Detroit scored two in the first on a Kerry Carpenter double, but Keider Montero gave up three runs over five innings. Trailing by one in the top of the seventh, Hao-Yu Lee and Spencer Torkelson each hit home runs as the Tigers scored four. A two-run homer by Gleyber Torres in the top of the eighth closed out the scoring. Lee’s home run was his first in the majors. Torkelson’s put him in the record books alongside Hank Greenberg, Rudy York, Vic Wertz, Willie Horton and Marcus Thames as the only Tigers to homer in five straight games.
