The Wings have lost three of their last four, but remain tied with the Senators, Flyers and Blue Jackets for the final Eastern Conference wild card playoff berth, with the Capitals now one standings point back. Ottawa holds the tiebreaker. Columbus and Washington have played one more game than the other three. Detroit has six regular-season games remaining, including this afternoon’s home contest against the Timberwolves. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB
The Tigers clobbered the Cardinals 11-6 yesterday afternoon, in a game that was cut short in the ninth inning by rain. Jack Flaherty tossed four scoreless innings, but couldn’t record an out in the fifth, as Saint Louis scored five times off him and Drew Anderson. Detroit’s power kicked in, with Kerry Carpenter, Zach McInstry, Gleyber Torres and Matt Vierling each stroking their first home runs of the season.
The Tigers host the Cardinals again tonight. Keider Montero will start against Kyle Leahy. Coverage will begin at 6:55 on 99.3 The Lift.
Montero has been called up from Toledo to fill in for Justin Verlander, who has been added to the injured list with hip inflammation. Verlander said the injury doesn’t seem to be serious, but admitted that prudence is appropriate this early in the season. He could be back in the rotation by late next week.
The Brewers and Royals split their day-night doubleheader yesterday. Milwaukee took the opener 5-2. Chad Patrick turned in five shutout innings. Garrett Mitchell doubled, homered, and drove in all five Milwaukee runs. In the evening game, Kansas City scored six runs in the sixth inning off Brandon Sproad and Jared Koenig, and claimed an 8-2 victory.
That set wraps up in Kansas City this afternoon. Kyle Harrison will start against Kris Bubic.
