John Gibson struggled, as the Red Wings fell to the Penguins 5-1 last night. Gibson left early for the second straight game, after allowing three goals in the opening period. Cam Talbot relieved him. Dylan Larkin scored Detroit’s only goal when he wristed in a rebound off a shot by Patrick Kane.
In the race for the final Eastern Conference Wild Card playoff berth, the Blue Jackets also lost. Detroit remains two standings points behind Columbus… tied with the Senators and Foyers, and one point ahead of the Capitals.
The Wings have eight regular-season games remaining, and visit the Flyers tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB
The Tigers couldn’t hold an early lead, and lost to the Diamondbacks 7-5 last night. Detroit plated all five of their runs in the third inning, with help from RBI doubles from Jake Rogers and Riley Greene. Casey Mize did his part, holding Arizona to one run over six innings, while striking out nine. The Diamondbacks scored two in the seventh off Drew Anderson, and four in the eighth off Will Vest and Kenley Jansen to complete the comeback.
The Tigers play in Arizona again this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will start against Zac Gallen. Coverage will begin at 3:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers clobbered the Rays 6-2 last night. Brandon Woodruff held Tampa Bay to two runs over five innings. Milwaukee took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, when Brice Turang stroked a single with the bases loaded. All three runners crossed the plate, but Turang was caught in a rundown between first and second base. As he tried to slide into second, he appeared to have been tagged out, which negated the third run. A video review showed that the ball popped out of the fielder’s glove during the tag. The call was reversed, and the run reinstated.
The Brewers host the Rays again this afternoon. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Drew Rasmussen.
Milwaukee first baseman Andrew Vaughan underwent successful surgery to repair the broken bone in his hand. He could be back by mid-May.
Pitcher Rob Zastryzny and outfielder Steward Berroa have begun rehab assignments in Nashville. Jeferson Quero was sent down to the Sounds to make roster space for newly-acquired outfielder Luis Matos.
