The Michigan Tech Center for Education Outreach thinks about summer as soon as the snow starts to melt.
Students in the Copper Country and from around the state will soon gather on Michigan Technological University’s campus for summer youth programs. The week-long opportunities allow students to explore a wide range of topics from aviation to coding and aerospace engineering.
“It’s so important to just be able to try things now before they’re committed in a degree program or just being able to say like, oh, I thought this was something that I might be interested, but I wanted to try this totally different thing,” said Jannah Tumey, director of the MTU Center for Education Outreach. “Our real goals for students are to find things that they are excited by, things that maybe they’re not excited by, but they didn’t know, and to overall have confidence in their ability to succeed in some form of some post-secondary education.”
Summer youth programs have begun accepting registration for this year. Michigan Tech offers scholarships to help students take advantage of such opportunities and lowers the financial hurdle for families helping their child explore career paths.
The first summer youth program will meet on campus June 14-19 during AI Coding: Idea to Impact week. Those interested in learning more about summer youth programs at Michigan Technological University can find more information online.
