High School
The Ishpeming High School girls basketball team will play for a state title today. The Hematites will face Portland Saint Patrick this morning at 10:00 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, with coverage on KBear 102.3.
Ishpening enters the game with a record of 24-3. The Hematites defeated Morenci 37-34 in their semifinal game Thursday. The Shamrocks blew past Onekama 49-26 in their semifinal, and improved their record to 23-5.

College Hockey
Minnesota State won its fourth Mason Cup in five years, cruising past Saint Thomas 4-1 in the title game of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament last night. The Mavericks receive the CCHA’s automatic invitation to the NCAA Tournament. The full tournament field and seedings will be revealed tomorrow afternoon.
GLHL
The Calumet Wolverines close their regular season at home tonight against the Eagle River Falcons. Faceoff is at 7:30 at the Colosseum.
After this weekend’s games, seeding will be determined for next weekend’s Great Lakes Hockey League tournament. The Portage Lake Pioneers will host, with contests played at Dee Stadium and the Hoco. We’ll broadcast the Wolverines and Pioneers games on KBear 102.3 and 97.7 The Wolf.
NHL
The Red Wings welcome the Bruins tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons dispatched the Warriors 115-101 last night. Jalen Duren had 23 points.
The Pistons host the Lakers Monday. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks visit the Suns tonight.
MLB
The Tigers and Phillies played to a 4-4 tie in Grapefruit League play yesterday. Tarik Skubal struggled, allowing four runs on six hits over four innings. Dillon Dingler homered.
The Tigers take on the Yankees today. Framber Valdez will start. Coverage will begin at 1:00 on 99.3 The Lift.
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch has confirmed that Skubal will be the Opening Day starter Thursday in San Diego. Valdez will start in game two on Friday, followed by Jack Flaherty, Justin Verlander and Casey Mize.
The Tigers prospects fell to the Pirates prospects 8-7 in the Spring Breakout series yesterday. All of Pittsburgh’s runs came in the third innings, off Hayden Minton and Carlos Lequerica, who served up two home runs, including a grand slam.
The Brewers dropped an 8-7 decision to the Diamondbacks in Cactus League play. Jacob Misiorowski pitched into the fifth, and gave up four runs. Jake Bauers homered.
The Brewers will face the Padres today, with Robert Gasser on the mound.
Despite his struggles yesterday, Misiorowski has been named Milwaukee’s opening day starter. Brandon Woodruff, who would normally have been given the honor, is building up his arm slowly, following several serious injuries, and will see limited innings over the first several weeks of the season.
Milwaukee prospects bounced the Seattle prospects 7-3 in the Spring Breakout series. Luis Peña hit a three-run homer.
NFL
The Lions have signed free agent edge defender Payton Turner. Turner was the Saints’ first-round draft pick in 2021, but has struggled with injuries throughout his career. He’s looking for a resurgence after missing all of last season for the Cowboys with a rib injury.
