Orbion Space Technology announced it has been acquired by York Space Systems in a deal that brings the propulsion technology company’s operations under York’s manufacturing umbrella.
The acquisition strengthens supply chain access by integrating Orbion’s propulsion technology with York Space Systems’ manufacturing teams. Orbion will continue operating its Houghton facility during the integration process.
CEO Brad King founded Orbion in 2016, when the team could only dream of becoming globally recognized. King has often emphasized that businesses don’t have to sacrifice anything by locating high-tech operations in the Upper Peninsula with a solid business plan and good team.
Initial investments in Orbion raised $2.7 million with assistance from the MTEC SmartZone. In 2021, the company recommitted to keeping operations in Houghton when it established a facility on Sharon Avenue.
York Space Systems is based in Denver, Colorado.
