The Keweenaw Peninsula moves closer to 300 inches of snow after storms dumped nearly 40 inches onto the region over five days. Last week’s series of storms that landed in the region dropped nearly 50 inches of snow, bringing Keweenaw County’s snow total up to 277.75 inches on the winter. And the community will expect more snow arriving today.
The National Weather Service’s seven day forecast predicts another 2-4 inches of snow today, with another 1-2 inches falling overnight. On Wednesday precipitation should taper off, with less than one inch of snow expected in the forecast. And then cold temperatures could move into the Keweenaw Peninsula for the weekend. Just in time for the region’s sled dog race too.
Visit Keweenaw also encourages different ways to enjoy the recent snowfall after all of that shoveling. Snowmobile and ski trails have been groomed throughout the weekend, and ski hills in the region have upped the amount of snow on natural terrain trails. Those that have, understandably, seen enough of the snow can find the region’s charming winter culture around downtown areas, or learn to embrace the isolation inside a cozy cabin at one of many destinations in the region.
