The City of Hancock Police Department congratulates Officer Ben Galetto, the 2025 Officer of the Year in Houghton and Keweenaw counties. At the recent regional Pigs n Heat hockey fundraiser for the Copper Country Police and Fire Relief Fund, Officer Galetto was awarded the Officer of the Year award for his service in the community and commitment to law enforcement. Galetto graduated from the Oakland Community College Police Academy in January 2024, where he earned the Top Gun Award.
“Since joining the Hancock Police Department, he has consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism and dedication to service,” said Police Chief Tami Sleeman.
In July 2025, Officer Galetto received the Life Saving Award for swift action during a medical emergency involving an individual who was unresponsive and not breathing. Galetto initiated CPR and successfully restored the individual’s vital signs. He also performs field training officer duties and proudly serves the Michigan National Guard and City of Hancock Fire Department.
