High School
In hockey action last night…
- Calumet upended Houghton 4-2 at the Colosseum. The Copper Kings grabbed an early lead, with first-period goals by Josh Asiala and Nate Londo. After a scoreless second period, the Gremlins evened the score with tallies by Brody Donnelly and Cale Repp. Londo scored the game-winner with 74 seconds remaining, and added an empty-netter to complete a hat trick. Shots on goal were even at 29, with Beau Jukuri making 27 saves, and Brycyn Nettel 26.
- Hancock shaded Sparta 2-1. Nolan Hanner scored in the first period, and Kirby Storm found the back of the net in the second. The Spartans got one back early in the third, but the Bulldogs hung on for the win. Adam Mikkola made 16 saves, as Hancock outshot Sparta 35-17.
- In a game played at Gaylord, Jeffers fell to Dearborn Divine Child 4-3. After falling behind early, the Jets netted three straight goals to take the lead – two by Brogan Turner, and one by Griffin Heinonen. The lead held until the Falcons tied the game with 65 seconds left in regulation, then netted the game-winner on a power play with 6 seconds remaining. Kasen Helminen made 31 saves.

- Baraga shut down Hancock 47-26.
- Jeffers lost to Westwood 61-43.

In girls play last night…
- Houghton got past West Iron County 65-58 in overtime. Mia Lawson paced the Gremlins with 25 points. Lexi Burns added 15, and Ellie Hainault 12. Lily DeSosa netted 15 points for the Wykons. Cami Alexa had 14, and Bristol Shamion 11.
- Hancock fell to Negaunee 61-45.
- Baraga shut down Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 61-18.
- Forest Park smothered Rapid River 61-13.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team used a late surge to dispatch Ferris State 3-2. Max Koskipirtti scored in the second period, but Tech trailed until a third-period goal by Elias Jansson tied the game. Stiven Sardarian followed up with the game-winner with just under five minutes remaining. Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 22 saves. The Huskies play at Ferris again tonight.
The NMU hockey squad couldn’t find the net in a 2-0 loss to Saint Thomas last evening. William Gramme kept the Wildcats in the game with 33 saves. Northern hosts the Tommies again tonight at 6:07.
College Basketball
The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team plays at Missouri-Saint Louis this afternoon.
The Tech men’s team entertains Wisconsin-Stout today at 5:00.
Both NMU teams are off this weekend.
GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers outskated the Calumet Wolverines 6-2 last evening at Dee Stadium. Those teams will play again tonight at 7:30 at the Colosseum.
NHL
The Red Wings visit the Blackhawks tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons walloped the Hawks 142-115 last night. Every player on the Detroit roster scored. Eight reached double figures, led by Isaiah Stewart with 17 points.
The Pistons play at Boston Monday night.
The Bucks visit the Nets tomorrow.
NFL
The Lions visit Matthew Stafford and the Rams for a 4:25 game tomorrow, with coverage on 99.3 The Lift.
The Packers visit the Broncos for a 4:25 contest.
In the Sunday night game, the Vikings visit the Cowboys. Coverage will begin at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Steelers host the Dolphins in the Monday night contest on 99.3 The Lift.
MLB
The Tigers have traded reliever Chase Lee to the Blue Jays. Lee made his big league debut in April, and went 4-1 with a 4.10 ERA in 32 appearances. In return, Detroit gets pitching prospect Johan Simon, who compiled a 3-3 record with a 3.42 ERA in Single-A and Double-A last season, also in relief.
