College Soccer
The NMU men’s soccer team is celebrating its first GLIAC tournament championship, following yesterday’s 1-0 upset of top-seeded Saginaw Valley State in University Center. Tyler Kowalczyk’s goal in the 70th minute completed the improbable run for the Wildcats, who finished last in the league last season. NMU’s James Carr, Jan Hoffmann, Quint Van Roij and Ian Weimer were all named to the All-GLIAC Tournament Team.
The victory gives the Wildcats a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Seeding and scheduling will be announced tonight.
Grand Valley State won the women’s title with a 3-0 victory over Saginaw Valley.
NHL
Lucas Raymond’s goal late in the third period lifted the Red Wings to a 2-1 victory over the Rangers last night. Alex DeBrincat scored early for Detroit, and Cam Talbot stopped 18 shots. A bench-clearing brawl broke out after the final horn, when Detroit’s Mason Appleton shot the puck into the empty New York net.
The Wings will host the Kraken tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons host the Pacers tonight.
The Bucks visit the Cavaliers this evening.
NFL
The Packers held off the Giants 27-20 yesterday. Jordan Love threw two touchdown passes, and Evan Williams intercepted a Jameis Winston pass in the endzone to stop a late New York drive.
Green Bay running back Josh Jacobs left the game with a knee injury, and will be evaluated today. Love also left the game after taking a hit to the shoulder, but returned after a few plays.
The Eagles stifled the Lions 16-9 last night. Jared Goff threw for 255 yards and a touchdown, but Detroit’s running game was held to just 74 yards.
The Cowboys visit the Raiders in tonight’s game, with coverage at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
