On Dec. 2nd, the Copper Country will come together to support more than 50 non-profit organizations, including the Ontonagon Artist Collective (OAC).
In the village of Ontonagon, the OAC keeps a space open for people to come in and explore their creativity and pass time with friends and volunteers.
“We’ve worked with the 4-H group and kaleidoscope homeschoolers with a week-long camp for the youngers, but our population is predominantly seniors,” explained OAC Vice President Kate Globensky. “I think just alleviating some of that loneliness and isolation is so important.”
Art can address health by exploring creativity and trauma, connecting people to artists, and helping people build community. The OAC is one of a couple of arts non-profits taking part in Giving Tuesday with Copper Shores.
Globensky added that the group plans to use funds from the campaign to support programming and purchasing artist supplies.
