Students from CLK schools on a recent field trip to the Delaware copper mine chose to donate the cost of admission to a non-profit impacting their peers. The students picked 31 Backpacks, that deliver weekly meal kits to students in need every weekend and during each holiday break. Vice President of 31 Backpacks Melissa Maki says she’s grateful to hear about students caring about students. Adding it inspires the organization to keep reaching kids and families.
And the owners of mine give that money back, and they also match the amount. And the kids were asked, which, you know, nonprofit do you think should get this money? And they chose 31 backpacks. And it was just jaw dropping and inspiring to see that age group. They’re so young, you know, but they know about 31 Backpacks, and they know the importance that it is for, you know, their fellow students that might be struggling. – Melissa Maki, Co-Founder, 31 Backpacks
In total, the CLK students and Delaware mine donated 1,600 dollars for 31 backpacks. Maki adds the donation comes at a good time, as the organization prepares for one of the big back next month. 31 backpacks gains support for its mission through grants, donations, and sponsors. Maki says the support from local businesses and organizations provides 31 backpacks with more than a volunteers. But fuels kids to keep learning. Learn more about 31 backpacks online.
