With close to one year until the 2026 midterm elections, campaign season will pick up. And with it some visits from candidates to the Upper Peninsula and its communities. Senator Gary Peters announced earlier in 2025 he does not intend to run for a third term in the United States Senate to represent Michigan.
In his place several candidates have announced their bid for the position, including republicans Kent Benham, and Mike Rogers, as well as democratic declarers Haley Stevens, Mallory McMorrow, Rachel Howard and Abdul El Sayed.
The first of those making a trip to the upper peninsula will start with Abdul El Sayed, who plans to meet students on campus at Michigan Tech today and later host a town hall at the KUUF space in Houghton. The events are a part of a tour El Sayed will take around the region to meet with residents and voters.
Those interested in learning more about El Sayed’s events later today or want to learn more about Michigan US Senate candidates can find links below.
Kent Benham has registered as a candidate for the U.S. Senate race in Michigan, but has not published a website for more information about his campaign.
